Stress - I help nursing students with it

Everyone these days experiences stress in their daily lives. But, nursing students have a heavy load of stress from multiple factors in their lives and academic programs. Nursing students and new nurses have a 30% dropout rate. That's so worrisome to me. I've been there, and it is stressful! However it is so important that student nurses and nurses learn easy ways to help them manage the stress and become successful in meeting their goals.

Here are some of the most common stressors listed by nursing students:

  1. Worries about knowing enough

  2. Financial worries

  3. Will I be successful? What if I fail?

  4. What will my work environment be like?

  5. Passing the NCLEX (c)

  6. Managing school responsibilities, work and family

Do any of these sound familiar? You are not alone!!! What are ways that you manage stress and do self-care? I have done extensive research on mindfulness meditation using a smartphone app to manage stress and promote resilience.

Tip: start by just breathing, in and out, paying attention to your breath and bringing your mind back to your breathing every time it wanders. Let me know how it goes!
